Who is Mrs. Count?

CLASSES: HSoB Principles of Marketing/Business Finance, HSoB Management/Business Strategies,
SCHOOL PHONE: 720-423-4323

My name is Mrs. Count and I am looking forward to a new semester. I have been involved with metro-area schools for over 29 years both as a parent and teacher.  This will be my 18th year teaching and my 6th year at JFK. Prior to entering the teaching profession I spent over 20 years working for various telecommunications corporations in sales and marketing positions which allows me to bring a real-world perspective to my classes. In addition to my teaching credentials I have a BS in Marketing from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Montana.

I am married and mom to three boys – Matthew, Andrew and Sean. Matthew graduated from Thomas Jefferson HS and the University of Northern Colorado. After teaching English in Bangkok, Thailand Matthew came back to the United States and finished law school. He is currently working as an attorney and living in Nebraska. Andrew graduated from George Washington HS and the University of Denver. After working at a law firm for a year he also went to law school. Andrew is married and lives in Denver. My youngest, Sean graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 2017 and is pursuing his business degree at the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Outside of class I am an avid reader and enjoy traveling, skiing and spending time with my family. I also enjoy gaming and you might find me online playing World of Warcraft.

Instructional Goals
The following lifelong/workplace skills are the foundation for study in my classes: Communication, Critical Inquiry, Intra/Interpersonal Responsibility, Quantitative Reasoning, Technology, and Perception. Of these skills my classes will focus on: Communication, Critical Inquiry, and Technology.

Successful students will show their learning through in-class exercises and specific course assignments, the ability to pursue and retain knowledge, comprehend the various significant levels of acquired knowledge (analyzing and identifying their various components), evaluate the significance of the knowledge, synthesize ideas from multiple sources, and apply what is learned to work and life situations.

Several of the HSoB courses offer college credit from Community College of Denver and students will earn a total of 3 concurrent enrollment credits this year.  Students also earn honors credits for each of the classes in the program.  In addition, my classes require students to take an active role in the FBLA chapter at Kennedy High School. For more information on dual credit and/or FBLA please call or email me.
